I Depeche Mode sono un gruppo musicale britannico formatosi a Basildon nel 1980. La band è costituita da Dave Gahan (voce), Martin Gore (chitarra e tastiere) e Andy Fletcher (tastiere, basso e portavoce).
La formazione originaria comprendeva anche Vince Clarke (tastiere) noto per essere lo strumentista degli Yazoo, il quale ha lasciato la band nel 1981. Dopo l'abbandono di Clarke, Alan Wilder (tastiere) si è unito al gruppo nel 1982 per poi lasciarlo nel 1995.
Affermatisi sulla scena synth-pop inglese agli inizi degli anni ottanta, la loro fama si è protratta ed accresciuta negli anni. Attraverso una proficua carriera trentennale, hanno abbracciato più di un genere musicale, con larghe concessioni al pop rock e alla New wave, specie nella seconda fase, e una massiccia incursione nella dance alternativa, fino a diventare il gruppo synth-pop di maggior successo nella storia della musica elettronica[2], ed una delle band più influenti degli ultimi trent'anni. La nota rivista musicale britannica Q, li ha definiti "la band elettronica più popolare e longeva che il mondo abbia mai conosciuto"[3], e Rolling Stone "la quintessenza della musica elettronica degli anni 80".
I Depeche Mode hanno venduto complessivamente circa 100 milioni di album in tutto il mondo[2][4]; ma la loro carriera è costellata di successi quali Just Can't Get Enough (1981), Everything Counts (1983), People Are People (1984), Never Let Me Down Again (1987), Personal Jesus (1989), Enjoy the Silence (1990), Walking in My Shoes (1993), It's No Good (1997) e Precious (2005), soltanto per nominarne alcuni, dei numerosi singoli che hanno realizzato.
