The Noise - February 2000 (issue# 198)
Liquor Store, Laundromat, Chinese Restaurant
You'll probably find it pretty difficult to stay still while listening to Rumble's amazing latest offering, which is packed solid with infections grooves! Vocalist D Double E's intelligent lyrics and sometimes ferocious delivery perfectly complement the supersonic, riff-laden roller coaster ride that's propelled by Gutterboy's bass, Skunk's guitar and Malcolm's drums. With it's title's reference to a bleak, urban landscape trinity, Liquor Store, Laundromat, Chinese Restaurant is full of tales of inner-city failure and redemption that are teeming with social conciousness. Most of the CD's smartly crafted songs keep a fairly constant mid to mildly fast pace, but there are a few interesting tempo changes thrown in to spice things up. Each slice of metallic mayhem has more than its share of hooks in all the right places and all the seques flow smoothly. Rumble is a band that could go big in no time, if the right people get a chance to hear this CD!
While I was initially intimidated by the "Massachusetts Rapcore" banner that shamelessly graces this bands web site (www.rumble4.com), I got over that really quickly the first time I listened to the CD! In fact, I now feel pretty selfish for listening to this CD for several months before writing this review that you are reading. Although I'm still not too crazy about the band's name or the CD's cover graphics, I can't find a damn thing to complain about otherwise. All in all, Rumble's Liquor Store, Laundromat, Chinese Restaurant is definitely the best rock CD I've heard come out of Lowell yet, and one of the better ones I've heard from anywhere else. (2000 Joe Browns)
