User Album Review
The area where this album just outright blows much of its contemporary competition out of the water is the methodical marriage of basic melodic material with the complex formulas that go into writing epic length songs. In several ways, "World Of Black And Silver" could be likened to a variation on Iron Maiden's "Somewhere In Time" but with a less overt Sci-Fi tendency. A similar display of progressive idea development and long-winded instrumental sectional devices can be found through much of this album, not to mention that Dahl and Nyberg's lead duels are steeped in the same sort of old school NWOBHM style that typified the Murray vs. Smith duels, and the character of the guitar sound of each in turn has a grand arena-based timbre to it in line with Maiden's mid 80s sound. In fact, the only areas where Crystal Eyes really deviate from the Maiden paradigm are the heavily reverbed and thudding drum sound in the production and the frequent employment of major key choruses that plays more to a Helloween/Gamma Ray sound. --- hells unicorn for metal-archives.com
