“Born Yesterday” is a 2021 single by Arca featuring Australian singer and songwriter Sia. Arca released the song and its music video on October 4th, 2021, along with the announcement of Kick II release date and tracklisting. The original Sia demo of the song leaked online in 2014 and was rumored to be pitched to Katy Perry. Sia then released her original verse on YouTube.
After collaborations with Rosalía and SOPHIE on 2020’s Kick I and a recent remix for Lady Gaga, Arca’s latest joint venture, “Born Yesterday” with Sia, represents her latest foray into more mainstream pop. The first single from the producer’s upcoming Kick II takes a different approach from its predecessors, building off an unreleased yet all too familiar sounding Sia demo. In an inteview with Zane Lowe, Arca has said that she connected deeply with said demo and decided to build her own song around the acapella. Ahead of its release, the electronic artist has shared the lead single “Born Yesterday,” featuring Sia. It’s the only collaboration on the 12-track album — a sharp paring-down from the four featured artists on Kick I. The single arrives with a dark music video directed by KinkiFactory starring Arca. “Thank you also Sia for allowing me to lip sync for my life and letting me channel the vocal for the video, on set the tears were real,” she wrote on Twitter. Kick II is the second of four albums to be set for release in an ongoing series. In the interim of the projects, Arca has shared the one-off single “Incendio,” made an appearance on Lady Gaga’s Chromatica remix album with a new take on “Rain on Me,” and dropped the four-track project Madre and the 100-track AI remix pack Riquiquí.
