Zacari Moses Pacaldo I, known professionally as Zacari, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist recognized for his work across R&B, soul, rap, and electronic genres. He gained significant recognition through collaborations with established artists, most notably his feature on Kendrick Lamar's 2017 single "Love," which reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. His career has been marked by a progression from session work to signing with Top Dawg Entertainment, leading to the release of his debut EP and full-length albums.
Pacaldo's musical foundation was established in Bakersfield, California, where he was raised in a musical family. His early musical education began at age eight, encompassing guitar, drums, saxophone, and keyboards, thanks to his mother, who was a former drummer. After completing high school, he gained experience working seasonally for three years at an Alaska national park before enrolling in music school in Los Angeles. During his time in L.A., he began posting original music online and built connections, moving from offering saxophone session work to collaborating on tracks with artists such as Ab-Soul, Larry June, Kembe X, and Isaiah Rashad. A notable career milestone occurred when he pitched his original song "Lovely" to Kendrick Lamar, which was later reworked as "Love" on Lamar's 2017 album *DAMN*.
In 2019, Pacaldo signed with Top Dawg Entertainment, which released his debut extended play, *Run Wild Run Free*, on March 15, 2019. His subsequent output included the EP *SOL* in December 2021, and stand-alone tracks like "Do Better" (2022) and "Motions" (2023), both joint singles with Ab-Soul. This trajectory culminated in the release of his full-length debut album, *Bliss*, in July 2024, which featured singles including "Lonewolf Still," "Destiny," and "Faith + Sight" with BEAM. His career also included appearances on the soundtrack for the 2018 film *Black Panther*, inspired by the album curated by Kendrick Lamar.
