Ben Ellman is an American saxophonist, harmonica player, and record producer best known as a longtime member of the New Orleans funk band Galactic. He also performs as a DJ under the name Gypsyphonic Disko, blending New Orleans-style funk with klezmer, Eastern European, and other international sounds.

Ellman joined Galactic in 1994, when the band was still known as Galactic Prophylactic, and has since recorded eight studio albums with the group, including its 2025 release "Audience with the Queen." Since 2007 he has served as Galactic's in-house producer, working on recordings by artists such as Trombone Shorty, Stoop Kids, The Revivalists, Walter "Wolfman" Washington, Soul Rebels, Big Freedia, Ryan Montbleau, and Lyrics Born. Notable production credits include Trombone Shorty's "Backatown," which received a Grammy nomination in 2010, and The Revivalists' "Men Amongst Mountains," which featured the single "Wish I Knew You," a No. 1 hit on Billboard's Alternative chart in 2015.

As a session musician, Ellman has recorded with Harry Connick Jr., The Afghan Whigs, Ani DiFranco, Theryl "Houseman" deClouet, The Royal Fingerbowl, and Corey Henry. In March 2019, he became a part-owner of the historic New Orleans venue Tipitina's when Galactic's members purchased the club.
