Elkka, born Emma Kirby in 1988 in Cardiff, Wales, is a Welsh record producer, vocalist, and DJ. She is known for winning BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix of the Year in 2021 and for co-founding femme culture, an inclusive queer platform and record label she runs with her partner Alex Lambert.
Elkka began her career as a pop songwriter, having grown up listening to artists such as Britney Spears, the Spice Girls, and Rihanna with ambitions of becoming a pop vocalist. In 2016, after years working behind the scenes in the industry, she moved from songwriting into production, citing musicians including Laurie Anderson and Imogen Heap as influences. She has since released music through Local Action, Ninja Tune, and her own label femme culture, and has remixed tracks for artists including Kelly Lee Owens, Hector Plimmer, and Ela Minus.
Her breakthrough came with the EPs Euphoric Melodies (May 2021), a fusion of house and electronica, and Harmonic Melodies (November 2021), released under the Technicolor imprint. In August 2021, she won the Association of Independent Music award for Best Independent Remix for her remix of Ela Minus's "Megapunk," and later that year was nominated for Best Breakthrough Producer at the DJ Mag Awards. Following her Essential Mix of the Year win, she was made a BBC Radio 1 resident DJ in April 2022, joining a roster that included Ben UFO, Andy C, and TSHA. She has toured in support of Caribou and Jon Hopkins and performed at festivals and venues such as Glastonbury Festival, All Points East, and O2 Academy Brixton.
In June 2024, Elkka released her debut album, Prism of Pleasure, on Ninja Tune, followed by Xpression in 2025. Through femme culture, she also organizes the annual HeForShe compilation, with all proceeds donated to the charity UN Women.
