Anakin Justin Østhus was born in 2004 and hails from Klett in Trøndelag, Norway. He grew up in a small village with no music scene – “everyone wants to become a construction worker and stuff” – and without a particularly musical family. His musical journey began when he received the music production software FL Studio for Christmas at the age of thirteen. At fourteen, he released his first track on Spotify – “Leinstrand City,” an ironic ode to how great his hometown is. His artist names have evolved from Lil A through Young Vader and Vader to the current Anakin Justin, rooted in the dark SoundCloud rap wave that captivated him early on.
From the Jury’s Selection at by:Larm in 2023 to Norway’s Urørt winner in 2024, his rise has been rapid. He won the Urørt final at Rockefeller in Oslo with the track “Lately,” now sharing the title with previous winners like Girl in Red, Arif, and Cezinando. In June 2025, he released the mixtape 2004 to outstanding reviews – Aftenposten’s critic wrote that it had been “a long time since I’ve heard anything this good and original from a rapper or artist.”
As both songwriter and producer, he does what many thought impossible: he makes the Trøndelag dialect sound sexy. His style is laid-back and personal – a blend of alternative hip-hop, introspective lyrics, and home-produced beats that feel both intimate and ambitious at once. Most of his music has been created in his home studio, and he still operates independently without a record label. Anakin Justin is quite simply one of the most exciting new names in Norwegian hip-hop.
