Argo is a Greek hip hop band from Thessaloniki formed in 2006. The six-member ensemble consists of lead vocalist Christina Lachana, vocalists Vladimiros Sofianidis and Ilias Kesidis, backing vocalist Maria Venetikidou, Pontian lyra player Kostas Topouzis, and tabor player Alekos Papadopoulos. Originally performing under the name Europond, the band renamed themselves for their Eurovision participation. The group blends hip hop with traditional Pontian music and instrumentation drawn from their ancestral heritage in the Black Sea region. Most band members share Pontian Greek ancestry, incorporating traditional sounds and dialects into their contemporary compositions.
The band achieved prominence representing Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm, performing "Utopian Land", written and arranged by Sofianidis. Released on 10 March 2016, the single featured multilingual lyrics in Greek, English, and Pontic Greek dialect, addressing themes of migration and social cohesion. Performing in the first semi-final on 10 May 2016, the track failed to qualify for the final with 44 points, marking the first time since the introduction of semi-finals in 2004 that Greece did not advance to the Eurovision final. The official music video was produced by Beetroot productions and filmed in Thessaloniki.
