Clare Bowen (born 12 May 1984 in Minnamurra, New South Wales, Australia) is a contemporary country singer-songwriter who gained prominence through her role as Scarlett O'Connor on the television series Nashville. Growing up in rural Australia, Bowen was influenced by artists ranging from Paul Simon to Dolly Parton, and graduated from the University of Wollongong with a degree in creative arts in 2007. Her breakthrough came with the Nashville series, where she performed alongside the cast on multiple soundtrack albums, including The Music of Nashville: Season 1, Vol. 1, which topped the Billboard soundtracks chart and reached the Top Five on the country chart.
Under the mentorship of producer Buddy Miller, Bowen developed her signature vocal style and released several cast albums, with The Nashville Cast Featuring Clare Bowen as Scarlett O'Connor: Season 1 reaching number 41 on the country chart in 2014. She signed with BMG Rights Management and released her self-titled debut album in August 2018, featuring folk-influenced tracks like "Little by Little," "Sweet William," and "Lijah". The album showcased her songwriting abilities and Australian folk roots. In 2024, Bowen collaborated with her husband Brandon Robert Young on the duo album Us under the name BOWEN * YOUNG, continuing to blend country and folk influences while establishing herself as both a performer and songwriter beyond her television success.
