Alice Gold (born Alice McLaughlin) is an English singer-songwriter based in London who emerged from the indie-pop scene in the late 2000s. Originally performing under her birth name Alice McLaughlin, she was signed to Sunday Best records before moving to Fiction Records. Her debut single as Alice Gold, Orbiter, was released in September 2010 through Pure Groove Records, drawing attention from The Guardian who praised her powerful voice and described her as one to watch. Her musical style blends power-pop with psychedelic 60s influences, creating a distinctive sound that ranges from summery grooves to rock-infused melodies.
Gold's debut album Seven Rainbows was released on 4 July 2011, produced by Dan Carey who had worked with Franz Ferdinand, Hot Chip, and Lily Allen. The album was recorded live to tape in the style of 1960s records, with the artist describing it as an honest and autobiographical work born from darkness but drenched in hope. Singles from the album included Runaway Love, Cry Cry Cry, and a cover of Billy Fury's Wondrous Place which was featured in a Carling beer commercial. She has toured extensively with artists including Eels, Athlete, Band of Skulls, and Noah and the Whale, and performed at major festivals including Glastonbury, V Festival, and T in the Park in 2011. Gold also collaborated with Sub Focus on the track Out the Blue in 2012.
