Scorcher, born Tayó Grant Jarrett on 5 April 1986 in Edmonton, North London, is an English grime MC, songwriter, and actor known for his sharp lyrical delivery and authentic street narratives. Growing up in Enfield to a Jamaican father and a mother from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Jarrett was raised in a music-filled household that inspired his early passion for the craft. He began his career in the Enfield grime crew Cold Blooded, where he became known for his aggressive "shank" bars and regular appearances on pirate radio stations. His breakthrough came with the release of Simply The Best, Vol. 1, a 24-track mixtape released in 2006 while serving a prison sentence for driving offences, which earned strong reviews from the grime scene.
After leaving Cold Blooded, Scorcher joined The Movement, a influential grime collective featuring Wretch 32, Devlin, Ghetts, and Mercston. His 2009 debut album Concrete Jungle, released independently, marked a stylistic shift toward electronic music that divided fans but demonstrated his versatility. Throughout his career, Scorcher has released successful tracks including "It's All Love" featuring Talay Riley, Wretch 32, Kano, and Bashy, and continued the Simply The Best mixtape series. Beyond music, he has pursued acting with roles in Top Boy, The Intent, Offender, and Steve McQueen's Mangrove series. Currently signed to Blue Colla Music, Scorcher remains an active figure in UK grime, releasing albums like Since You Were Gone in 2024 that showcase his evolution as an artist while maintaining his connection to the genre's roots.
