Chella H, born Chella Holcomb on September 17, 1982, in Chicago, is a rapper, actress, and comedian. Raised in the Ida B. Wells and Robert Taylor Homes projects, she grew up in poverty, impacted by her mother’s addiction and the absence of a father. As a pregnant teen, she resorted to drug dealing and petty theft to survive, using songwriting to express her struggles.
Starting with the group The Fam, she rose in Chicago’s drill scene after her brother and her child’s father were killed. Her raw, authentic style shines in her self-produced FreakNik Vol. 1, the 2016 mixtape No Filter, and the single “Options” (with Kash Doll and Trina). Part of the female group W.W.A., she collaborated with Bump J and others. Her EP From Nothing reflects resilience.
Advocating for women in hip-hop, she co-hosts the Str8DropUncut podcast. Her music, on Spotify and SoundCloud, embodies the South Side’s strength.
