Erica Banks, born Erica Scharmane Banks (also known as Breaux), is an American rapper born on October 5, 1998, in DeSoto, Texas—a suburb of Dallas where she was raised. From a young age, she showed a passion for words, winning multiple poetry contests in elementary school and starting to write raps at just 12 years old. Her musical influences include trailblazing female rappers like Missy Elliott, Lil' Kim, and Nicki Minaj, as well as Dallas natives Asian Doll and Cuban Doll, whose styles helped shape her bold, confident Southern trap sound and image—often compared to Megan Thee Stallion and Ti Taylor of Taylor Girlz.
Banks launched her career independently in 2018 with her debut single "Talk My Shit" on SoundCloud. She followed up with her first official mixtape, Art of the Hustle, in March 2019, and released two more independent projects before signing with 1501 Certified Entertainment. Her self-titled mixtape Erica Banks dropped in June 2020, featuring the breakout single "Buss It," which exploded on TikTok in January 2021 via a massive dance challenge. The track peaked on the Billboard Hot 100, topped the Billboard Top Triller U.S. chart, and earned her a deal with Warner Records that same month. She also landed a feature on Yella Beezy's single "Star" around this time.
Building on her momentum, Banks has released several projects, including the albums Real Rap B*** and Ain't Shit Stopped, and collaborated with artists like Tay Money on tracks such as "Thick." In June 2023, she joined the cast of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, expanding her presence in entertainment. By December 2024, she inked a new joint venture deal with Arista Records, solidifying her rising status. She proudly reps her Dallas roots as a "Dallas Native" and "Flow Queen," with recent performances like a show in Sugar Land in January 2025.
