Artist BiographyAvailable in:

Samara Cyn, whose real name is Samara Henderson, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter born on September 15, 1998, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. With an Afro-American father and a Dominican mother, she grew up in a nomadic environment due to her father's military career, spending her childhood in Augusta (Georgia), El Paso (Texas), Hawaii, and Colorado, before settling in Tempe, Arizona, after high school to pursue higher education at Arizona State University. This cultural diversity deeply influences her musical style, a fusion of neo-soul, hip-hop, R&B, and pop, characterized by introspective lyrics, a unique raspy voice, and a Southern accent with West Coast influences. Based in Los Angeles, she draws inspiration from artists like Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Missy Elliott, JID, and Kendrick Lamar.
Her music passion began in 2019 when she wrote her first song and performed live at an open mic in November. She quickly gained local attention in Arizona, performing at venues like the Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix and the House of Blues in Houston, and opening for artists such as Teddy Swims and Tory Lanez. Her narrative lyrics explore personal themes like growth, empowerment, daily struggles, police brutality, and racial injustices, delivered with a vulnerable and engaging approach.
In 2024, she released her debut EP, The Drive Home, which propelled her onto the national stage, earning support from icons like Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill. She opened for Nas on the 30th anniversary tour of Illmatic in London in November 2024, shared the stage with Lauryn Hill at the Jazz in the Gardens Festival in Miami in March 2025, and won the Grulke Prize for Developing American Artist at SXSW 2025. In 2025, she opened for Smino’s Kountry Kousins tour starting in April, released her second EP Backroads in June with the single « Brand New Teeth » featuring Smino, joined the XXL Freshmen 2025 class, and made her late-night TV debut on The Daily Show in July with « Hardheaded ». Notable tracks include « Chrome », « Pride's Interlude », « Moving Day », « WAKE UP », « D.A.B. », and « WTD », showcasing her artistic evolution.
At 27, Samara Cyn uses her platform to inspire youth, promote sustainable social practices, and open doors in the music industry, redefining the boundaries of hip-hop and soul with raw authenticity.
