The Württemberg Philharmonic Reutlingen (WPR) is a German symphony orchestra founded in 1945 and based in Reutlingen.
Shortly after the Second World War, the Municipal Symphony Orchestra was founded in Reutlingen by Hans Grischkat , initially consisting of 30 musicians. Due to the broad popularity of the Reutlingen population, the concerts were always well attended from the start. To alleviate the orchestra's financial difficulties in the post-war years, concerts were organized for which local businesses purchased larger ticket contingents for their employees. On January 31, 1949, the first "People's Concert for Reutlingen Businesses" took place. The orchestra was renamed the Swabian Symphony Orchestra Reutlingen in 1949 and over time developed into an internationally active ensemble.
In the 1959/60 season, the orchestra already played to 98,000 listeners. In 1983, it was renamed the Württemberg Philharmonic Reutlingen . In 1998, it became one of the first orchestras in Germany to be transformed into a legally independent foundation under civil law .
