Artist Biography Available in: The Bedrocks were a six piece soul and reggae group formed in the Chapeltown area of Leeds around 1966. They were originally called The Bedrock Sunshine Band, taking their name from the fictional town of Bedrock from the popular cartoon series The Flintstones. For the majority of the group’s career the members were:Trevor Wisdom (organ and vocals), Owen Wisdom (bass and vocals), William Hixon (lead guitar and vocals), Leroy Mills (trumpet), Paul Douglas (tenor saxophone), Reginald ‘Reggie’ Challenger (drums).
All six members of the group were West Indian migrants who had come to England from various Caribbean islands; three from Jamaica (Trevor, Owen and Paul), two from St.Kitts (Reggie and Leroy) and one from Montserrat (William). The Bedrock Sunshine Band were just one of the black groups playing in Leeds at the time but their unique style made them stand out from the rest. Drummer Reggie Challenger was the last to join the group, replacing original drummer Rick.
