Patrick Cohen , born in 1964 in Mulhouse , is a pianist , fortepiano and pedagogue French .
Patrick Cohen, was born in Mulhouse in 1964, began playing the piano at the age of seven and studied there at the conservatory, until his first prize at the age of fifteen. He continued his cycle in Basel with Klaus Linder .
It was the conductor Paul Sacher in Basel, who introduced him to the piano-forte and from 1979, the pianist alternated between piano and piano-forte . From his twentieth year (1984), he first taught at the Basel Academy of Music, then the fortepiano at the Paris National Conservatory of Music since 1995 (following Jos van Immerseel ) . He also gives master classes notably in Madrid, London, Cologne, Graz and at the University of Arizona . He teaches the fortepiano of the pre-classical, classical and romantic periods, the Lied and the melody with piano-forte.
He plays chamber music with Gérard Poulet , Barthold Kuijken , Erich Höbarth, Christophe Coin and the Quatuor Mosaïques ; but also collaborates with Jordi Savall , Rita Streich , Philippe Herreweghe , Ton Koopman and Jaap Schröder 1 and with the Talich and Anton quartets , on modern piano 3 , 4 .
Among the many festivals that have been invited are the Basel Festival, Roque d'Anthéron, Granada, Aix-en Provence, Cork, Mozartwoche and the Salzburg Festival.
