Jan Ladislav Dussek (Dusík) is a Bohemian composer and pianist, born February 12, 1760 in Čáslav (Kingdom of Bohemia) and died March 20, 1812 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. He started playing the piano at the age of five, at the organ at nine and from the age of 13, composed a solemn mass. After 1778, he stayed successively in The Hague near the stadtholder, in the service of the Dutch count Männer and began a career as a concert performer. He publishes his first works. In Hamburg, he perfected a whole season with Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. The teacher encourages him to put his new ideas into practice.
In 1802, he played in his hometown, Prague. He then went to the service of the Prince of Isenburg (1806–07), before returning to Paris and ended his days, retired to Saint-Germain-en-Laye, suffering from gout attacks.
Jan Ladislav Dussek leaves us around 280 musical works including 35 sonatas, concertos, symphonies, oratorios (including the Resurrection) and many works for harp (his mother, his wife and his daughter were distinguished harpists).
