Artist Biography

Bicep is an electronic music duo from Belfast, consisting of Andy Ferguson and Matt McBriar. They started out as childhood friends and ran the blog “Feel My Bicep,” where they shared rare edits in disco, Detroit techno, and Italo disco. After building their reputation through remixes and their own releases, they signed to Ninja Tune and broke through with their debut album Bicep in 2017 – a record marked by atmospheric melodies and nostalgic structures, with the track “Glue” becoming an iconic rave anthem.

Their second album, Isles (2021), cemented their position in electronic music, leading to international recognition, festival appearances, and multiple award nominations.

In 2024, Bicep launched their ambitious project CHROMA, signaling a new creative direction. CHROMA is more than music – it’s a three-part venture encompassing their own record label, a series of curated live events, and a groundbreaking hybrid AV/DJ performance. The visual identity was developed in collaboration with designer David Rudnick and Terrain Studio, giving the project a distinctive aesthetic.

Through CHROMA, they have explored a rawer, more club-focused sound, with releases such as “CHROMA 001: HELIUM,” “ROLA,” “TANGZ” (featuring vocals by ELIZA), “KR36” (under the alias Dove with Kehina), and the closing track “BRILLO.” These tracks display a wild range of exploration – from ambient and breakbeat to deep techno and hyper-stylized rave – always with danceability at the core.

The CHROMA format draws audiences into a hypnotic world where Bicep’s material is combined with real-time visual elements, live-manipulated by Zak Norman. The performances have evolved “from DJ sets to living performance” and change from show to show, pulsing with constant experimentation and intense energy.

All in all, Bicep is a name that has grown beyond its blog roots and nostalgic soundbites to create unfiltered, emotion-driven electronica – and CHROMA shows a duo now unafraid to challenge their own boundaries, visually, musically, and in the audience experience.
