Artist Biography
Available in: gb icon flag icon
The Baboon Show started out as a live band in Stockholm in late 2003, formed by Cecilia Boström on vocals, Håkan Sörle on guitar and Niclas Svensson on drums. The name is inspired by the Swedish government, which the band feels behaves like "a horde of wild baboons."

They play a mixture of '77 punk, garage rock and power pop with clear influences from X-Ray Spex, Blondie, the Ramones, Buzzcocks, AC/DC, Toy Dolls and Dead Kennedys. The songs are short, direct and infectiously catchy — no long intros, no backing vocals, no unnecessary filler. Just Boström's distinctive, rasping voice, Sörle's hard-driven guitar and a rock-solid rhythm section.

The Baboon Show are a socialist band with a special love for Cuba — they have returned to the tropical island four times, and in 2015 they went into a studio in Havana to record older songs with Cuban musicians. The lyrics are as well-travelled as the band itself: political, feminist and socially critical, but always with punk's cheek and humour firmly intact.

In 2025 they celebrated their 20th anniversary as a band with a major jubilee tour. Veterans they may be, but the energy on stage is as raw as it has always been. Expect sweat, high tempo and a crowd that simply cannot stand still.
