The SWR Vocal Ensemble Stuttgart ( "VE" ) is a broadcast choir of Südwestrundfunk .The choir was founded in 1946 under the conductor Otto-Werner Mueller , as the broadcasters had to design the entire music program with their own sound bodies in view of the few available sound carriers . The choir of the US radio station Radio Stuttgart initially consisted of thirteen singers of Linz Reichs-Bruckner Choir and bore the name Chamber Choir of Radio Stuttgart . His repertoire included religious music , folk songs , operas , operettas and recordings for radio plays; but there were also live concerts. At the Donaueschinger Musiktage 1947 "The Peace of Birth" was premiered by Hugo Herrmann (musician) .
The choir changed name several times: Since 1949 he was called choir of the South German Radio , from 1959 Südfunk Choir and from 1992 Südfunk Choir Stuttgart . With the merger of Süddeutschem Rundfunk and Südwestfunk in 1998, the choir received the current name SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart .
The ensemble regularly consists of 36 singers. The repertoire ranges from classic modern to challenging works of contemporary music. The choir works with national and international orchestras, in particular with the orchestras of the SWR, the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra and the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg . In many cases, works were premiered by the ensemble, often composition commissions. His performances are as live recording in generally SWR2 sent.
