The Associazione Barocchisti - Orchestra Barocca della Svizzera Italiana is a Swiss Chamber Orchestra specializing in baroque music and historical performance practice , directed by Diego Fasolis .
The ensemble emerged from the Società cameristica di Lugano , which - founded and led by Edwin Loehrer (1906-1991) - since the late 1950s rediscovered important vocal and instrumental works of the Baroque, and is now considered on an international level as a reference orchestra for performances Old music on historical instruments. The orchestra is made up of renowned specialists from Italy and Switzerland, which often occur as a soloist at the international level. The cast varies from four to forty musicians. Sound recordings are regularly combined with concert tours to the same subject. In 2008, the rarely performed Handel opera Faramondo was presented in Ascona and recorded on phonograms. 2013 saw a multi-award-winning recording of Pergolesis Stabat Materwith Jaroussky and Lezhneva, who was then presented on a tour of Amsterdam, Essen, Baden-Baden and Lucerne. The close artistic partnership of orchestra and conductor with Cecilia Bartoli led to the multimedia project Mission , the rediscovery of Baroque composer Agostino Steffani , was awarded an ECHO Klassik and nominated for the Grammy Award . It was followed by other Steffani CDs of Barocchisti , the Stabat Mater and the Danze e Ouvertures , finally summarized in the exclusive collection edition The Steffani Project . In 2014, Bartoli's CD project St. Petersburg followed, Baroque music at the Zarenhof, whose publication followed a long tour through Europe.
I Barocchisti has performed and guested at major music festivals and opera houses in Europe and the USA, such as Settimane Musicali di Ascona or Lugano Festival , Amsterdam Concertgebouw and La Scala , Gstaad and Stockholm , Belgium , France , Croatia . Portugal and Spain . At the Salzburg Festival , the ensemble debuted at Whitsun 2013 with Niccolò Jommelli's oratorio Isacco figura del redentore, the first modern performance of the critical edition by Francesco Luisi , accompanied Franco Fagioli's aria evening in honor of the castrato Giambattista Velluti (1780-1861) in 2014 and were first engaged in 2015 as an opera orchestra in Salzburg.
