Marit Larsen from Lørenskog has been a part of Norwegian music scene since childhood. Raised in a musical family — her mother is a pianist and her father is a cellist in the Oslo Philharmonic — she started playing the violin at the age of five. At the age of eight, she became best friends with Marion Raven, and together they formed the pop duo M2M, which was signed by Atlantic Records and achieved international success with hits such as "Don't Say You Love Me" and "Mirror Mirror". When the record label disbanded the duo in 2002, Larsen took time to find her own voice.
Her comeback came with the solo album Under the Surface in 2006, which debuted at number three on the Norwegian sales charts and was certified double platinum. Larsen won the Spellemannprisen for best female artist and the MTV Europe Music Award for best Norwegian artist that same year. The follow-up The Chase (2008) solidified her position — "If a Song Could Get Me You" went straight to the top in Norway and later became number one in both Germany and Austria. This was followed by Spark (2011) and When the Morning Comes (2014), the latter partly recorded in Nashville. In 2024 she released the EP Hun er min, in which she explores the Norwegian language in her songwriting.
Musically, Larsen finds herself at the intersection of folk-pop and acoustic singer-songwriter, with warm melodies, lingering guitar playing and lyrics that balance the everyday with the poetic. Her voice is bright and clear, with a closeness that gives even the most arranged songs an intimate feel — something that makes her equally at home on a large festival stage as in an intimate club setting.
