William Martin Joel, comunemente conosciuto come Billy Joel (New York, 9 maggio 1949), è un cantante, pianista e compositore statunitense.

Billy Joel è nato a Hicksville (Bronx, New York) il 9 maggio 1949, cresciuto nel Long Island, ha iniziato a suonare nel primo complesso a quattordici anni (The Echoes), dopo avere visto un concerto dei Beatles alla trasmissione televisiva "Ed Sullivan Show". Nel 1967 ha fatto parte della band The Hassles (con la quale ha pubblicato due dischi), per poi costituire, nel 1970, il duetto heavy metal denominato Attila (insieme all'ex batterista degli Hassles, Jon Small), col quale pubblicherà un solo album per la Epic Records.
