I Powerwolf sono un gruppo musicale power metal tedesco, noto per le loro visioni originali sulla religione, che si possono notare sia nei testi delle loro canzoni che nelle copertine dei loro album.
Nel 2003, i fratelli Charles e Matthew Greywolf, dopo aver suonato insieme per anni, fondano un gruppo chiamato Powerwolf. Poco tempo dopo, l'organista Falk Maria Schlegel e il batterista Stèfane Funébre si uniscono alla band. Al gruppo, però, mancava un cantante principale e, dopo averlo cercato per molto tempo, finalmente lo trovarono in Attila Dorn durante un viaggio della band in Romania e riuscirono quindi a completare il gruppo.
Contrariamente a ciò che si potrebbe ipotizzare, i Powerwolf non sono assolutamente un gruppo anticlericale: i 5 componenti hanno ognuno una propria visione spirituale distante tra loro (ad esempio Attila Dorn, il cantante del gruppo, è cresciuto con un'educazione molto ortodossa).
