Stein Torleif Bjella (born April 7, 1968 in Ål, Hallingdal, Norway) is a critically acclaimed Norwegian singer-songwriter and guitarist  . He debuted solo in 2009 with the album Heidersmenn, earning nominations for the Spellemann Awards in both Folk and Lyricist categories.
His follow‑up, Vonde visu (2011), won the Spellemann Award for folk music. Subsequent albums—including Heim for å døy (2013), Gode liv (2016), Jordsjukantologien (2018), and Øvre‑Ål Toneakademi (2020)—have solidified his role as a defining voice in Norway’s contemporary folk and singer‑songwriter tradition . Gode liv also received a Spellemann Award for Best Folk Album and was nominated for Album of the Year.
Bjella’s music is noted for its poetic, grounded lyrics and unique ability to connect with both rural and urban audiences. Tracks such as “Romantikken gjer meg sjuk”, “Psykisk kan du vera sjøl”, and “Tilbake i det blå” have helped establish him as a seminal figure in modern Norwegian songcraft. Beyond music, he’s an accomplished author: his poetry collection Jordsjukantologien Nr. 1 (2017) and debut novel Fiskehuset earned wide critical praise, including the Nynorsk Literature Prize and a nomination for the P2 Listeners’ Novel Prize.
