Gary Moore, geboren am 4. April 1952 in Belfast, Nordirland, und gestorben am 6. Februar 2011 in Estepona, Spanien, war ein nordirischer Gitarrist, Sänger und Songwriter, der als einer der herausragendsten Blues- und Rockmusiker seiner Generation gilt. Schon als Jugendlicher spielte er Gitarre, inspiriert von Vorbildern wie Peter Green, Jimi Hendrix und Eric Clapton, und trat zunächst mit der Band Skid Row auf, in der auch Phil Lynott sang. Mit Lynott verband ihn eine langjährige Freundschaft, und Moore arbeitete mehrfach mit Thin Lizzy zusammen, bevor er sich als Solokünstler etablierte. In den 1970er- und 1980er-Jahren veröffentlichte er Hardrock- und Metalalben wie Corridors of Power (1982), Victims of the Future (1983) und Run for Cover (1985), die Hits wie „Out in the Fields“ hervorbrachten. Ab Ende der 1980er-Jahre wandte er sich verstärkt dem Blues zu und veröffentlichte 1990 das erfolgreiche Album Still Got the Blues, das international Millionenauflagen erreichte und mit Songs wie „Still Got the Blues (For You)“ und Gastauftritten von Albert King, Albert Collins und George Harrison seine Karriere neu definierte. Es folgten weitere Bluesalben wie After Hours (1992), Blues for Greeny (1995) und Bad for You Baby (2008). Moore galt als technisch brillanter Gitarrist mit unverwechselbarem Ton, der fließende Soli mit emotionaler Intensität verband. Neben seiner Solokarriere arbeitete er mit Künstlern wie Greg Lake, B.B. King und Colosseum II. Am 6. Februar 2011 starb Gary Moore im Alter von 58 Jahren an einem Herzinfarkt während eines Urlaubs in Spanien. Bis heute wird er als einer der bedeutendsten Gitarristen des Rock und Blues verehrt, dessen Werk Generationen von Musikern beeinflusst hat.
