The Sisters of Mercy ist eine Rockband, die 1980 in Leeds, Großbritannien, von Sänger Andrew Eldritch und Gitarrist Gary Marx gegründet wurde . Eldritch ist das einzige überlebende Mitglied der ursprünglichen Besetzung. Die Band war auf jedem ihrer drei Studioalben notorisch anders, von Medien, die als "Gothic" über "Keyboards" bis zu "American Rock" bezeichnet wurden. Die Band ist dafür bekannt, einer der Anführer der Gothic-Musikszene der 80er Jahre zu sein. Sie bestreiten jedoch jede Verbindung mit Gothic und betrachten sich in erster Linie als Rockband. Zu ihren Einflüssen zählen Leonard Cohen , The Stooges , Suicide und Motörhead .
