Somnia is the 34th studio album by the legendary British space rock band Hawkwind, released on 10 September 2021. Putting aside their usual lyrical focus on outer space, the legendary band takes a conceptual dive into "inner space" by basing the album's concept entirely on sleep, dreams, and the Roman god of sleep, Somnus.
The lyrics explore themes ranging from sleepless paranoia and fever dreams to meditation. Musically, listeners can expect classic electronic space-rock grooves interspersed with ambient synth drones, spoken-word passages, and brief stylised ventures into space-funk and reggae-beats.
