It’s 1986, and Melody Rogers has graciously invited you to traverse along with her through Yugoslavia. As Americans, you don’t know much about the region, but one thing is for sure. Milošević isn’t the Serbian president yet, capitalism is starting to flow, and the socialist nation is pumping out some of the best music in Europe.
Maybe it’s the jet lag, or perhaps the locals are being too generous with their rakija and pivo (beer), but things feel like a blur. Thankfully, Melody seems chipper and informed, although you’re going to need to pay attention if you’re going to make it back home.
Try not to be seduced by the serenity of Lake Bled in Slovenia, tempted by the Dalmatian coastline in Dubrovnik, or engulfed by the underground nightlife in Belgrade. We have an itinerary to adhere to, and Ms. Rogers and the rest of the “2 on the Town” crew will leave you behind. Brush up on your Serbo-Croatian and drink some water, kiddo. We have a long way to go.
P.S. How can you possibly be nostalgic for memories you never had?
