Released on 25 May 2022, Void of Unending Depths is the long-awaited third full-length from Chile’s Inanna, emerging after a decade-long hiatus to deliver a profound evolution of their sound.
This album marks a deeper, murkier plunge through cerebral death metal, shepherding listeners into astral, eldritch realms. It’s less about raw aggression and more about cosmic dread, with swirling ambient textures, spacious guitar work, and dissonant tonal structures that evoke atmospheric black metal and post-sludge moods.
The album retains Inanna’s technical roots, but transfigured. Guitars emerge not just as instruments of brutality but as voices of alien landscapes; riffs are angular, tonally warped, weaving between atonality and fleeting melodic clarity. Classic death metal motifs emerge twisted, as if filtered through an otherworldly lens.
Though notably expansive, with most tracks exceeding six minutes and two surpassing ten, the album remains remarkably focused. Each of the seven tracks unfolds with intention, avoiding meandering tendencies despite its length. The compositions evolve naturally, using thematic repetition and variation to build atmosphere rather than relying on filler.
The songwriting is fluid and cohesive. Every riff and tonal shift plays a purpose. The record flows in a dreamlike haze that captures both aggression and introspection in equal measure.
Vocals are darker and more guttural than previous releases, adding depth and gravitas from the outset. The rhythm section, particularly the interplay between the bass and drums, provides a dense oppressive foundation, while guitars contribute kaleidoscopic lead work that both anchors and destabilizes.
