Album Description
Available in:
Like a huge soft-focus swoon, fabulous 70s retro Philly soul and sixties pop made new by the British duo of Lydia Kitto and J Lloyd (Josh Lloyd-Watson), better known from dance-pop band Jungle, with this debut side project, exploring and inspired by their own up-and-down romance with panache and a glorious sense of irony, melodrama, and style. Decorated with lavishly entertaining slo-mo and reversing videos, it’s a gloriously cool, classy indulgence with superb delivery, Kitto’s voice soaring, Lloyd’s instrumentation sharp, and their combined production immaculate. From the woozy embrace of opener In Your Arms, the gentle, pacier funk and Jackson 5 vibes of Don’t Speak, that Philly soul Delphonics lushness floods through the album, from Cisco Bay to the clip-clop rhythm and Hawaiian woosh of Lessons, the shimmering guitars and high vocals of Bullet, the slow, gentle title, heartbreak of the title track, the shuffle rhythm and orchestral-rich soul of Toyko Rain, all the way to the ghostly, oddball nostalgia of closer Hello Stranger, it’s a release that oozes class and style. A swishing, romantic, purple curtain of an LP, filled with emotion, but also fun, you feel it’s as much a love letter to the music. Out on Vetra Records / AWAL Recordings.
