9/66: 1 SAMUEL
SCRIPTURE OF DEDICATION: 1 Samuel 1-8 (the first eight chapters; Samuel's rule as Israel's last judge before raising them up a king, first in Saul and then to David)
This dedicates itself to the first eight chapters whereby first Eli and then Samuel, the latter-namesake prophet of the book, are the final two judges over Israel during this time. By the eighth chapter of the book, the people have grown restless and want a king to rule over them instead of a judge. This displeases Samuel, who goes to the Lord on what to do, whereby the Lord ensures that (if this desire is going to be granted to those who wish it) all know what exactly a king will entail.
In today's age, we know that there is but one king of kings, the Lord Jesus Christ. The desire to be ruled over by one supreme entity is intrinsic to our nature as God has etched such a desire onto our hearts from before the foundation of the world. In a time as tumultuous as over three-thousand years ago, we see mankind's struggle with autonomy versus authority.
