Dream Guitars, Vol. II (Hand Picked) is an instrumental acoustic album by American guitarist Al Petteway, released in April 2015. It features 16 original compositions with a running time of approximately 51 minutes, including “I Don't Want to Be Sad No More,” “Blue Ridge Brambles,” “Breakin' the Blues,” “Swannanoa,” “When We Were Young,” and “The South Wind.” The album was recorded at Fairewood Studio in North Carolina and produced by Petteway himself. Created in close collaboration with guitar specialist Dream Guitars, it features selected high-end instruments from the shop’s collection, with each recording conceived as a study of the individual guitar’s tonal character. The recordings were deliberately kept minimal, without post-processing or effects, to capture the natural sound of acoustic guitars in DADGAD tuning as faithfully as possible. Stylistically, the album blends elements of folk, blues, Celtic music, and Appalachian traditions with Petteway’s distinctive melodic fingerstyle playing, marked by technical finesse, musical depth, and warm tonal colours. The compositions are meditative, expressive, and sensitive, demonstrating his ability to tell emotional stories through subtle nuances. Dream Guitars, Vol. II (Hand Picked) is a musical portrait of exceptional guitars, captured by one of the leading figures in the art of acoustic guitar.
