A rebuke of clothing-based idolatry masquerading as sound doctrine.
I went to a church that was overly-stringent on dress code. Even with modest apparel on, I was reprimanded twice. The first time, for not having a collared shirt; the second time, retroactively, for having my hair a bit shaggier than they were comfortable with (despite it being wintertime). There was a tension between the congregation's apparel expectations and those who came in. I'm not surprised that I didn't see many new members here, and wasn't surprised when I found myself being led of the Lord elsewhere.
Please never think that your faith has to do with how fancy you dress up. It's one of the worst pieces of modern traditional idolatry found in many churches. By all means, if you feel called to dress your best to praise the Lord, do it. But never feel conscripted into putting on clothing for performative worship. Consider John the Baptist.
"And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey." - Matthew 3:4
And what did Jesus say regarding John?
"For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he." - Luke 7:28
