Pale Figure is a love letter to Shūji Terayama and the spirit of Japanese New Wave. A collage of cinematic fragments and samples from Terayama’s movies with experimental soundscapes.
Terayama is a figure who has greatly influenced my artistic work, with his surreal and raw movies, a very intimate and experimental cinema wich I love more than anything. My first introduction to his work was The Labyrinth Tale, recommended by one of my professors. I then spent many hours watching and studying his work. Just like my previous work on the film La Jetée (1962) by Chris Marker, I strongly encourage you to discover Terayama’s body of work.
To discover his work I suggest you to watch :
The cage (檻)
Butterfly Dress Pledge (蝶服記)
The Labyrinth Tal (迷宮譚)
The Trial (審判)
