The music of NEW MEXICAN STARGAZERS has always been monumentally difficult to describe without first understanding where it came from, an intricate web of influences that stretch from end to end of the psychedelia-scored new age and hynagogia scenes of the 2000s. Washed from front to back in black and white, with the stage set by collage-influenced black-and-white harsh xerox graphics, there was something wholly unique about the amalgamate sound that extended from then to now, still holding strong as a touchstone for the experimentally inclined.
'thermal narrative report' pulls from these early influences and expands upon them with textures and sounds that are sharper, more clear and piercing to contrast and punch through the fog of its own soundscapes. From the muted, softened backing synth in "decisive factoring tablet" to the sea of voices perpetuated by the waves of the vocal sample within 'comfort template enactment' and its hypnotic, movement-based repetition, there is always some sort of instrument with a distinctly synthetic edge, punching beams of electronic light through the dense clouds of its own hypnagogic sound.
The idea is almost revolutionary, in itself. A juxtaposition that cycles between the sink to stupor and its counterpart, the dreary, eyebags-alight feeling of sleeplessness minutes after waking up. The in-betweens of delta waves, encapsulated in sound. There's something special about 'thermal narrative report' that shows an advancement in sound by NEW MEXICAN STARGAZERS and truly feels like it is pushing something new and unique into the world.
