Notes from the artist:
>A meditation on virtual reality as a form of astral projection. Two worlds existing in three dimension in our homes but not the same three that contain our corporeality. A transmutation of existence / consciousness as a form modern alchemy, the technical means a form of industrialised magic abounding with convenience features.
>So microwave your brain and let your thoughts melt like well conditioned butter. Rippling outwards in endless waves of creation and destruction of unending progress. The centre of an empty plaza, the ripples of consciousness laid out beyond as pages in an index
>And despite the constraining reality, we are free. Step out into the raw light of morning, but remember the inexorable commodification to which we tacitly clicked agree in the terms and conditions. Despite all it's promises of unequalled value and unparalleled quality it is a product of our world and product to be bought and sold...
About the composition:
Musically, this album was influenced by Eyeliner, Rustie’s glass swords (this album was huge inspiration for me when it first came out and it's recent 10th anniversary brought it back into focus), Ryuichi Sakamoto, Com Truise, Blank Banshee and Ford & Lopatin
This album includes experimentation with an original CMI Fairlight and a Disklavier (a computer controlled piano which uses solenoids to actuate the hammers). It also continues my recent exploration of FM synthesis featuring heavy use of Yamaha DX7 & DX21 for their characteristic sound (particularly for basses). Drums come from a plethora of drum machines including TR707, TR505, Yamaha RX5 and MFB-522.
Notes from the label:
Once again, ako takes his love for ancient technology and spins it masterfully into idyllic tapestries of future utopian dreamscapes. The analog synthesizers ring pure through automated percussion sequences as you glide through digital topiaries uninhabited by the troubles of the modern day.
Across these 10 tracks, the listener bears witness to ako's creation of a new world and gets to join in feeling freeing the experience can be. Glimmering, shimmering, and full of possibilities.
