User Album Review
Stephan Eicher's double live album, recorded during his marathon tour in 1994, features 43 tracks over two hours of music. A fine opportunity to revisit the Swiss-German rocker's repertoire, enriched by his particular stage feel and served up by an excellent sound recording. We are delighted to find "La Chanson bleue", an extract from his very first album of the same name, as well as most of his hits, from "Combien de temps" to "Ni remords ni regrets" and "Déjeuner en paix", in a remarkably feverish version. It even includes a song he wouldn't record in the studio until much later, the poignant "Louanges", in an acoustic version. As for covers, Stephan Eicher revisits Arno's welcome "Putain, putain" and, more surprisingly, AC/DC's "Highway To Hell" in Alemannic dialect. But the most astonishing part is yet to come, when he lets us discover numerous jubilant improvisations recorded in the bars and hotels where his tour takes him, or during the sound check before each concert. The album is complemented by a beautiful 24-page booklet in which guitarist Sam Broussard gives us his tour diary. An interesting album in more ways than one
