In the years 50/60, it was fashionable for filmmakers to make a thriller in the Hollywood tradition, of jazz (Elevator to the Gallows). With the means offered by the producer Darryl Zanuck, Pierre Granier-Deferre can afford the services of organist Jimmy Smith. All the pieces were improvised in one night by an excellent trio Quentin Cash Warren on electric guitar and Billy Hart on drums. Music composed by Jimmy Smith accompanies the film beautifully, and the combination of both is one such model.
In the 60s, many French filmmakers inaugurated their career by achieving a thriller in the tradition of Hollywood film noir. For example, Costa-Gavras with compartment killers or Edouard Molinaro with the back to the wall . However, Pierre Granier-Deferre wait for his third feature (after Little Boy elevator and The Adventures of Salavin ) to be interested in the genre, with The Metamorphosis of woodlice , dialogued by Michel Audiard, according to a book Alphonse Boudard. For music, thanks to the means offered by the legendary producer Darryl Zanuck, the filmmaker can afford the services of organist Jimmy Smith (Granier-Deferre says in the liner notes that he was at the time a fixation on the sound of the electric organ Eddy in Louiss also played on the soundtrack of his second movie). All the pieces were improvised in one night by an excellent trio Quentin Cash Warren on electric guitar and Billy Hart on drums. After this collaboration, Granier-Deferre never saw Jimmy Smith! Note, this CD is supplemented by interpretations of famous themes ( "Mission: Impossible", "Goldfinger", "The Man with the Golden Arm") extracted albums arranged by Claus Ogerman, Lalo Schifrin and Oliver Nelson, and as the famous the Cat .
