Album Description

"Sleepless" is the second studio album by English folk musician Kate Rusby, released in 1999, on the Pure Records label. It was nominated for the Mercury Prize the same year.
Sleepless was the winner of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for 2000.
This, her second solo album, is collection of traditional songs and original compositions (plus a sensitive cover version of Iris Dement's "Our Town") in which Rusby muses on and mourns for lost love in a variety of settings.
The album's style is a distinctive combination of traditional influence and strictly acoustic instrumentation, with arrangements that take different directions than the familiar renditions of the old songs. But there is also a good helping of original material by Kate that sound like classic traditional ballads.
