"Around The World In A Day" ist das siebte Studioalbum von Prince und das zweite Album mit seiner Begleitband "The Revolution". Es erschien am 22. April 1985 bei dem Label Warner Bros. Records und enthält neun Songs, darunter die vier Singles "Raspberry Beret", "Paisley Park", "Pop Life" und "America". Die Laufzeit des Albums beträgt 42 Minuten und 35 Sekunden. Das Albumcover gestaltete der Fotograf Doug Henders.
Die Albumaufnahmen fanden zwischen dem 19. Februar und 24. Dezember 1984 in Eden Prairie und Los Angeles statt. Damit stellte er das Album größtenteils vor Beginn seiner "Purple Rain"- Tour im November 1984 fertig.
Bei "Around The World In A Day" war Prince Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Musikern stärker als zuvor und in den darauffolgenden Jahren seiner Karriere. Neben Musikern seiner Begleitband "The Revolution" übten Lisa Colemans Bruder David Coleman und Wendy Melvoins Bruder Jonathan Melvoin Einfluss auf das Album aus. So setzte Prince auf dem Album erstmals Instrumente aus dem Nahen Osten wie Oud, Darbuka oder Fingerzimbeln ein. Zum ersten Mal in seiner Karriere folgte auf ein neues Prince Album keine Tournee.
"Around The World In A Day" belegte in den amerikanischen Billboard Charts drei Wochen lang Platz eins. Es wurde in den USA knapp 3,5 Million Mal verkauft, wodurch es doppelt Platin-Status erlangte. In Deutschland wurde das Album 240.000 Mal verkauft und erreichte Platz zehn der deutschen Album-Charts.

Prince was so tired touring Purple Rain after that tour he wanted to write his next album in a polar opposite musical style. As a result Around The World In A Day divided the critics.
Released under the credit Prince & The Revolution, Around The World In A Day became the first album released on Prince’s own label, Paisley Park Records, a subsidiary of Warner Brothers, funded from the proceeds of his success with the Purple Rain movie, album and tour. He wanted this album to be very different and opted for a psychedelic slant. Because of that Prince was criticised for abandoning his black roots and fans and critics alike were hoping for a continuation of the previous album’s gusto.
Around The World In A Day is spiritual and less accessible that Prince’s previous albums it in result sold just 3 million copies in the USA and is twice certificed Platinum by the RIAA. It did, however, remain in the Billboard Top 40 for six months, mainly due to the inclusion of the single Raspberry Beret, which itself peaked at number 2.
