The Mamas & The Papas (1966) es el segundo álbum de la banda, lanzado tan solo unos meses después del anterior.

Producido por Lou Adler, confirmaba que el éxito inicial no había sido casualidad. Aquí el grupo jugó con mayor sofisticación: “I Saw Her Again” muestra la fuerza de las armonías grupales, mientras que “Words of Love” despliega un lirismo melódico más íntimo. Hay también un guiño autorreferencial en “Dancing Bear” y un sonido más experimental en algunos arreglos.

No alcanzó la explosión del debut, pero reafirmó la identidad del grupo y su capacidad de reinventar el folk-pop.
