"De bestemming" is the seventh studio album by the Dutch singer Marco Borsato, released in 1998. The album sold in the Netherlands more than half a million copies, accounting for five times platinum. Because of that "De bestemming" became the best selling album of 1998. He became the first artist who managed to deliver the best-selling album two years in a row. Only Adele could match that in 2011 and 2012, of all things with the same album 21.
The album was released a year after Borsato's best-selling album "De waarheid", which went over the counter no less than 700,000 times in 1997. Through a train tour that visited among others Den Bosch and Utrecht, Borsato promoted in August 1998 the successor. The singer could count on massive media attention. For example Radio 538 was doing a live coverage of Borsato's train journey and RTL 4, RTL 5 and Veronica broadcasted a 2.5-hour relay program about the release.
On August 14 at midnight 350 record stores in the country opened their doors to be the first to sell "De Waarheid". This action received extra publicity because the Prosecution called the police to act against cases that had no license for the nightly sales.
For the record Borsato again worked with his regular writers John Ewbank, Han Kooreneef and Jan Tekstra. He described the album at the time as a "special one" wherein he 'artisticly exceeds' himself.
