Waylon, stage name of William Bijkerk (Born in Apeldoorn, 20 April 1980 ) is a Dutch singer. He himself named after his idol Waylon Jennings.
He started his career in 1995 and sang along with Carlo and Irene in the Dutch program Telekids, where he sang the chorus of the song 'Harry the Stallion'.
From childhood on he was inspired by country music and he played the drums in and with the band called West Virginian Railroad. He signed a contract in 1997 at EMI and was in Nashville to record an album, which however never came out. In 2001 he lived and worked one year in the United States where he also acted in the show of his idol, Waylon Jennings, with whom he worked. Jennings died however and Bijkerk returned to the Netherlands. He married at a young age, in 2002, got a son and then divorced after three years of marriage.
He got music lessons from Lisa Boray and began, after having returned from the States, in the coverband Santa Rosa. He also sang in the band Millstreet.
Waylon participated in 2005, together with Rachel Kramer as the duo "Rachel & Waylon, in the preliminary rounds of the National Song Contest with the song "Life as a beast." Winner of the National Contest was finally Glennis Grace.
In 2008 he took part in Holland's Got Talent where he finished in second place.
In 2009, his record company Universal Music signed him up as the first Dutchman to the famous Motown label. His first single "Wicked Way" was released on 7 August and the almost eponymous album Wicked Ways on August 28. Waylon scored with "Wicked Way" an "Alarmschijf", and reached the top 10 of the Dutch Top 40.
In April 2010 he won the 3FM Award for 'Best Newcomer'. On May 3, 2010, he received at the TV program "De Wereld Draait Door", a gold record for his debut album. On June 26, 2010 Waylon won the TMF Borsato Award. Which he was awarded at the TMF Awards Festival in the Volkspark at Enschede, by Marco Borsato.
In October 2011 he released his single The Escapist, from his second album "After All" which was launched on 3 November.
On 12 April 2012 he won the 3FM Award for 'Best Singer'.
