Label Description
Chaos Productions is a French punk rock record label, formerly based in Orléans, Loiret, active between 1982 and 1987. Chaos Productions became an emblematic label of the French punk and skinhead movement of the late 1970s and early 1980s in France.
History
Founded in 1982, Chaos is the first musical initiative to honor punk bands from the provinces, the punk rock scene being until now mainly Parisian, with bands such as La Souris déglinguée, Oberkampf or Wunderbach. The label's niche is to produce only bands from the provinces, and it will produce punk and Oi! music bands from cities as diverse as Orléans, Rennes with the Trotskids, Brest with Al Kapott and Les Collabos, Blois with Kidnap, but also musical groups from Bordeaux, Lille, Longwy, Saint-Étienne, this list is not exhaustive.
The label was founded around four music groups featured on the label's first compilation, Komintern Sect, Reich Orgasm, Kidnap and No Pub. Chaos Productions then produced Oi! and punk music groups that would be among the most representative of this movement and this musical current; both through albums and EPs, allowing emerging bands, such as Komintern Sect, Trotskids, Reich Orgasm or No Class, to release one or more records in their own name; but also through compilations, including Chaos en France Vol. 1 in 1983 and Chaos en France Vol. 2 in 1984, the success of which allowed the label, in 1985, to produce a compilation of European bands entitled Chaos en Europe. Chaos Productions, available only on vinyl, are very popular with collectors because of their rarity.
To celebrate its 2 years of existence, the label organized the Chaos Festival on October 20, 1984. Trotskids, Kidnap, Reich Orgasm, Collabos, Komintern Sect, Camera Silens and Sub Kids are playing that night.
