Jayelldee is a 21 year old musician born in Putney, London, but raised in Cwnbran, Wales. Signed to Virgin, working with Benga, TC, and a Kaiser Chief, and recently picked up by Elite for their new special bookings department.

Jayelldee perhaps hasn’t had the easiest time of it growing up. Half Welsh and half Jamaican, she grew up with only her mum in the small Welsh town, was bullied for being mixed race, faced the death of her best friend at age 17, and through it all continued to write music as an outlet, self taught on the keys and guitar.

Taking inspiration from across the board – she counts Johnny Rotten and Siouxsie Sioux among her heroes – Jayelldee takes her bass beats alongside her screamo and aims to say something that stands out, breaking the pop poppet mould of simply making music to put your hands up to. With the autumn time slated for her first major release, we get a sneak peek of what to expect.
