Terrance Simien is an American zydeco musician, vocalist, and songwriter known for his contributions to the zydeco revival and his extensive international touring career. Born on September 3, 1965, in Mallet, Louisiana, Simien has established himself as a pivotal figure in the genre, achieving recognition through numerous awards and significant cultural collaborations.

Simien's musical career began in earnest in the 1980s when he rose to prominence as a teenage accordian player. He formed a teen zydeco band at age 16 and was signed to a national booking agency by age 21. His early career included appearances in the feature film *The Big Easy* with his band, Terrance Simien & the Mallet Playboys, in 1986. His debut album with the Mallet Playboys was *Zydeco on the Bayou* in 1990, followed by his second album, *There's Room for Us All*, released in 1993. Simien has performed over 8,500 shows across more than 45 countries since 1996.

A significant milestone in his career involved collaborations with major artists, including Paul Simon, Dr. John, The Meters, Stevie Wonder, and Los Lobos. Simien's group, The Zydeco Experience, achieved notable success, winning the Grammy Award for Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album in 2008 and the Grammy Award for Best Regional Roots Music Album in 2014. Furthermore, Simien was instrumental in establishing a new Grammy voting category for the genre in 2007. Beyond his music, Simien co-founded "Creole for Kidz & The History of Zydeco" in 2000, a performing arts program that has reached nearly 500,000 students across multiple countries. His work has also been featured in global media, including the Disney film *The Princess and the Frog* (2009).
