Ovidiu Anton is a Romanian singer-songwriter known for his career in rock and pop music, notably for his participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. He has established himself as a vocal powerhouse in the Romanian music scene, achieving significant exposure through both solo work and band activities.
Anton began his musical journey by studying modern canto, classic guitar, and piano at a Music School, and later formed the band Carpe Diem in 1998, with whom he toured until 2002. During this period, he also gained recognition by winning second place in the Interpretation section of the Mamaia National Festival in 2003 with his song "Vreau" ("I Want"). His career continued with participation in the Star School (Romanian: Școala Vedetelor) between 2004 and 2006, where he was named valedictorian of the second edition. Between 2008 and May 2012, he served as the lead singer of the band Pasager, performing hundreds of concerts and participating in the Eurovision national selection in 2010. While with Pasager, he also secured second place in the Rock section of the Mamaia National Festival in 2011.
Anton reached a significant milestone in 2016 by representing Romania in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Moment of Silence." Although Romania was forced to withdraw from the contest on April 22, 2016, due to issues with TVR's financial obligations to the EBU, Anton's song achieved high jury points in the semifinal on March 4 and garnered the most votes from viewers in the final on March 6. Following this event, Anton transitioned into his work as the lead singer and founder of the band Anton and as a successful solo artist, also fronting the band Manic Sinners. Beyond his musical career, Anton is married to Diana, and he is also involved in dog breeding, owning the Praetorian Staff kennel.
